Procedure to Register a Society
Register a society in West Bengal is a structured process that must be followed in accordance with government regulations. The process remains the same regardless of the risk category (Low, Medium, High), the size of the society (Micro, Small, Medium, Large), the investor type (Foreign, Domestic), or the registered office location (Rural, Urban).
Steps for Registration
Online Registration:
The applicant must register through the e-district portal (https://edistrict.wb.gov.in/portal/home). Upon registration, a user ID and password will be generated for future reference.
Submission of Application:
After logging in, the applicant must complete the application form and upload the required documents online before submitting it to the concerned department.
Application Review:
If the application is found incomplete, it will be returned to the applicant with deficiencies noted. The applicant must rectify these and resubmit the application.
Payment Process:
Once the application is deemed correct, it is forwarded for payment. The applicant must make the payment online upon receiving the payment order.
Approval and Certification:
After successful payment, the application is approved digitally, and a digitally signed registration certificate can be downloaded from the portal.
Application Tracking:
The applicant can track the status of the application online, and system-generated email/SMS alerts will be sent whenever the status changes.

Required Documents for Society Registration
The following documents must be submitted with the application:
Memorandum of Association and Regulation:
Color scanned copy of Standard Memorandum of Association and regulation, signed on each page by the President and Secretary.
Aadhaar Card:
Self attested ID card (address proof) of the applicant and all signatories to the memorandum (linked with a mobile number for OTP verification).
Photographs:
Clear color passport-size photos of all signatories, with names mentioned.
Registered Office Image:
Geo-tagged color image of the registered office.
No Objection Certificate (NOC):
From the landowner, notarized or on non-judicial stamp paper.
Updated Tax Records:
Self attested current Tax receipt for corporation or municipal area ,Land record from banglar bhumi (online and offline record) for panchayet area..
Landowner’s Aadhaar Card:
Self attested ID card of Land owner/s (address proof) linked with a mobile number for OTP verification.
Signature Specimen:
Legible specimen signature of the applicant.
Witness Aadhaar Card:
Self-attested Aadhaar card of the witness.
Affidavit or Special Permission:
Affidavit required for any mismatch of information or deficiencies.
Government Order (if applicable):
If the society is formed by a government order, a comprehensive order detailing the name of the society, ex officio/nominated members, and the registered office address must be submitted.
** No minor should be member in the society
** Land should not be litigated, clear title of land required, in case of IR record ,bastu shali & danga land accepted for registered office, In case of multiple owner ,NOC required from all owners
** Object of the society must be within sec 4(2) of WBSR Act 1961 as specifed in the act and standard MoA
