Property mutation happens after the actual transaction, whereas a property is registered by way of executing the sale document, once the buyer and seller come to an agreement. It is essentially the buyer\’s responsibility to complete the property mutation process, which entails updating his recently acquired asset in the local revenue office in his name.
Mutation as a Proof of Possession
A property mutation into the owner’s name serves as evidence of that person’s “possession” of the asset. The document is helpful while looking for water and power connections.
